Sheema: A bitter battle has erupted between two Sheema district government officials; that is the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Frank Kyereere and Sheema municipal town clerk Justine Barekye, over the relocation of Kabwohe matooke Market.
Their war started after they differed on where the new Kabwohe daily matooke market should be built.
Whereas RDC Kyerere insists its current location is a wetland and that it should be relocated to another place, Barekye insists that the market is going nowhere.
Kyereere contends that Sheema municipal council officials are killing Kagango wetland by allowing traders to hold there a daily matooke market.
It should be noted that Kabwohe daily market was on August 2, 2019 vacated from Kabwohe town where it had been operating from for years and relocated to another place near Kagango wetland along the Mbarara –Bushenyi highway.
Before the market was vacated, on July 19th 2019, Kyereere, with the help of police razed down banana, coffee and cassava plantations of more than 200 residents of Kitagata sub-county in Sheema district and vowed that whoever would be caught using that swamp of Orusindura would be jailed . On August 9, 2019, Kyerere, with the help of police, arrested who were allegedly clearing Kyogyera swamp to grow potatoes.
