In another twist, opposition Members of Parliament; Muhammad Ssegirinya and Allan Ssewanyana have been slapped again with fresh charges of murder and ordered to sleep in Kigo Prison until the 13th of October 2021.
According to the legislators’ lawyer dubbed Kampala Woman MP, Shamim Malende the legislators were informed that they were to go back to Kigo during their appearance before Masaka Magistrate Court presided over by magistrate Grace Wakoli who did not allow them to take any plea to the said charges since they are capital in nature and are only triable and bailable by the high court.
The prosecution alleges that on the 4th of August 2021, the two representatives of Makindye West and Kawempe North constituents respectively killed one Bwanika Joseph of Kisekka B Village, Kankamba Parish, in Lwengo District.
Meanwhile, the MPs have since denied the charges saying they are politically motivated by the current government ‘that is trying to shut the opposition under all possible ways.”
Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya was earlier this week abducted by security operatives minutes after being granted bail by High Court few days after his colleague as well, Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanyana faced the same and was taken to unknown detention centres.
Ssegirinya’s lawyer Shamim Malende wondered why the security operatives continues illegal operations even when her clients were granted bail by Justice Susan Okalanyi.
Today’s charges bring the total number of counts to seven; 4 of murder, attempted murder, terrorism and abetting terrorism all relating to the Masaka Bijambiya murders.
