Presidential Address: Boda Bodas, Public Transport, Malls & Arcades Opened, Entertainment Industry & Schools Remain Closed

Kampala: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa, after sending Ugandans into a 42-day lockdown in a bid to curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus, while delivering his long-awaited address tonight, has partially lifted the lockdown with strict adherence to the Standard operating procedures(SOPs) and the new measures are as follows;

1.Curfew maintained from 7 pm to 5:30 am.

2. Boda-bodas to carry only one passenger and must end business at 6 pm.

3.All kiosks should be removed from city arcade corridors.

4.Roadside vending is banned.

5.Kikuubo to remain as a wholesale trading center.

6.Malls, arcades are opened but their corridors must be cleared.

7. Burials and weddings should not exceed 20 people.

8. All places of worship remain closed.

9. Outdoor sports events are allowed but indoors remain closed.

10. Gaming & betting centers remain closed.

11. Artists and comedians to perform virtually.

12. Bars remain closed.

13. Restaurants remain open.

14. In and outside movements through Entebbe Airport remain open.

15. Public transport allowed at only 50% from Monday 2nd of August of 2021.

On the other hand, Museveni has comforted Ugandans that the issue of oxygen which is said to be the booster of COVID-19 deaths will be solved by installing gaseous oxygen plants at 15 regional referral hospitals and soon the country will kick off production of 24,000 oxygen cylinders per day.
