The Ministry of Health reveals that the current total number of Coronavirus (COVID-19) infections in Uganda stands at 281, after 28 new cases were recorded among truck drivers on Wednesday.
While updating the nation about government’s progress in the fight against COVID-19, the Ministry tweeted thus;
“Today,27 May,2020, 28 new COVID-19 cases confirmed. Total confirmed cases are now 281.
21 new cases are truck drivers who arrived from South Sudan via Elegu while 7 cases are contacts to previously confirmed truck drivers. The contacts were under quarantine at the time of test.”
Meanwhile, we have also learnt that the Ministry has since deported 7 infected truck drivers back to their respective countries of origin and to that effect the MoH tweeted thus; “7 positive foreign truck drivers (4 Tanzanians,1 Eritrean,1 Congolese and 1 Burundian) were handed over to their country of origin

This however comes at a time when President Yoweri Museveni partially lifted the COVID-19 lockdown in Uganda after he allowed private vehicles and public transport means to back on the roads and directed all Ugandans to wear face masks at all times when in public or travelling in vehicles.
