COVID-19: Uganda Registers 13 Deaths As MoH Confirms 49 New Infections

Kampala: Ministry of health has confirmed that Uganda has registered one death with 49 new COVID-19 cases out of samples tested on 14 August 2020.

This brings Uganda’s cumulative total confirmed cases to 1,434 and 13 deaths with 1,142 recoveries.

The deceased is a 50 year old Ugandan male, a resident of Kiryandongo who presented with COVID like signs and symptoms.

Of the 49 new infections include, 37 alerts that included seventeen (17) from Kampala, two (2) from Wakiso, fourteen (14) from Namisindwa, one (1) from Kiryandongo and two (2) from Mbarara & Lamwo District.

The new infections were confirmed from the samples tested from returnees, contacts and truck drivers.

Among the contacts included (6) to the previously confirmed cases which included one (1) from Bushenyi and five (5) from Kampala.

While the four (4) returnees, included three (3) from Saudi Arabia and one (1) from USA.

Others are the two (2) truck drivers who arrived from Kenya via Malaba Point of Entry

Meanwhile, 19 foreign truck drivers tested positive for COVID-19 at the border points of entry and their entry into the country was not permitted.

In the same vein, the Ministry tested 1302 samples from points of entry, 2466 samples from alerts and contacts making 3,768 total samples tested the whole day.
