COVID-19:MoH Confirms 19 New Infections Raising Total Cases To 1332

Kampala: Uganda’s COVID-19 cases have risen after the Ministry of Health confirmed 19 new cases from samples tested on  August 11, 2020.

This brings the cumulative total number of confirmed cases to 1,332, with 9 deaths and 1,139 recoveries, according to the Ministry.

Of the nineteen (19) confirmed cases, eleven (11) are alerts, five 5 are contacts to previously confirmed cases while three are truck drivers.

Regarding the eleven (11) alerts, four (4) are from Kampala Metropolitan Area, three (3) are from Namisindwa while four (4) are from; Buikwe, Mbale, Kasese and Wakiso Districts.

However, the five (5) contacts to previously confirmed cases include four (4) from Kampala Metropolitan Area and one (4) from Wakiso District.

Meanwhile, the three (3) truck drivers include, two (2) who arrived from Kenya via Busia and Malaba while one (1) arrived from South Sudan via Elegu point of entry.

In the same vein, twenty-four (24) foreign truck drivers that included 18 Kenyans, 3 Congolese and 3 Tanzanians, tested positive for COVID-19 at the border points of entry and their entry into the country was not permitted.

On the same day, the Ministry tested 1,498 samples from points of entry while samples from alerts and contacts tested were 1,401 making 3,199 total samples tested, which totals to 304,485 cumulative samples tested since the outbreak.
