COVID-19:Uganda Registers 12 Deaths As Cases Shoot To 1385

Kampala: The Ministry of Health has confirmed that Uganda has registered one COVID-19 (1) death rising total deaths to twelve 12 and 1385 cumulative confirmed cases with 1,142 recoveries from samples tested on 13 August, 2020 that confirmed 32 new cases.

The deceased is a 65 year old Ugandan male, resident of Kampala Metropolitan Area was admitted in Nsambya Hospital and later transferred to China-Uganda Friendship Hospital, Naguru after developing signs and symptoms consistent with COVID-19. 

However, he later passed on while on admission at Naguru Hospital. Results from the laboratories confirmed COVID-19.

In the same vein, results from samples tested on 13th August 2020 confirmed thirty-two 32 new COVID-19 cases.

Of the new confirmed cases, seventeen are alerts, six (6) are truck drivers, six (6) are contacts to previously confirmed cases and three (3) are returnees.

Regarding the seventeen (17) alerts, ten arrived (10) from Kampala Metropolitan Area, two (2) from Luwero, two (2) from Mbale, and three (3) from Kagadi, Mbale and Hoima.

Of the six truck drivers, three arrived from Kenya via Malaba and Busia, three (S) arrived from South Sudan via Oraba and Waligo Points of Entry.

The six (6) contacts to previously confirmed cases are broken down as follows; three (3) from Kampala Metropolitan Area, two (2) from Nakaseke and one (1) from Tororo.

Summary Results Out Of Samples Tested On August 13, 2020

Of the three (3) returnees, two (2) arrived from Kenya and one (1) arrived from DRC.

In addition, nineteen (19) foreign truck drivers that included 12 Kenyans, 2 Congolese, 4 Tanzanians and 1 South Sudanese tested positive for COVID-19 at the border points of entry and their entry into the country was not permitted.
