Local Government minister Hon Balaam Barugahara, on Thursday, officially handed over a new 5 classroom block to Kadindimo primary school administration in Rwimi Sub County, Bunyangabu District.
The block was built as a donation from Movit Executive Chairman and founder, Mr. Simpson Birungi, who is an OB of the school.
The project was executed by Movit Foundation, the Charity arm of the organisation in a bid to strengthen its contribution to education and community development in Bunyangabu District.
“I started my education career from here up to P7 before I went to Kibiito SS for my secondary life. The brain to start Movit products that’s now global started from this village. So I want the children of this school to emulate me,” said Simpson in his address.
The new facility is expected to provide a better learning environment for pupils and ease pressure on existing classroom space at the school, as part of the foundation’s continued efforts to support communities through education-focused initiatives.
The handover ceremony was attended by parents, teachers, learners, local leaders and government officials, including area RDC Bunyangabu Nichola Kamukama, District Education Officer, Sanyu Robert, area woman MP Sarah Kabarokole, among others.
The initiative has been welcomed as an example of how partnerships between government and development organisations can contribute to improving service delivery at the grassroots.
Officiating at the ceremony as chief guest, Minister Balaam commended Simpson and Movit Foundation for investing in education and community development, describing non-governmental organisations as important partners in Uganda’s transformation.
“This is service delivery at its best. It is what happens when government collaborates with development partners like my longtime friend Simpson,” Barugahara said.
He said the completion of the classroom block demonstrates the impact that can be achieved when development partners complement government efforts in addressing community needs. “This is supposed to be Government work, but when private partners assist in such projects, it becomes easier even for government to work on other issues like water, power, roads etc,” he added.
Barugahara also used the occasion to call on Bunyangabu district leaders to strengthen accountability and ensure government programmes and resources reach their intended beneficiaries.
He said the Ministry of Local Government would continue inspecting local governments to ensure resources allocated for education, health, agriculture and infrastructure are properly utilised.
The minister linked the inspections to President Yoweri Museveni’s emphasis on fighting corruption, warning local leaders against inefficiency, mismanagement and misuse of public resources.
He said the Ministry’s “Expose the Corrupt in Local Government” campaign was aimed at strengthening accountability and improving service delivery across the country.
Barugahara also highlighted the Parish Development Model (PDM), saying its success depends on strong supervision, transparency and meaningful participation by communities.
He urged Bunyangabu leaders to take responsibility for the quality of services delivered to residents and ensure that government programmes benefit ordinary citizens.
Turning to the new school facility, Barugahara challenged parents and community members to protect the classrooms and take ownership of the investment.
“This is your school, your children, and your future. Protect this facility. Use it well,” he said.
The minister further encouraged the community to work with school authorities and local leaders to ensure the facility is maintained and continues serving generations of learners.
The commissioning of the five-classroom block adds to the Movit Foundation’s community-focused interventions, particularly in areas aimed at improving the welfare and opportunities of young people.
The foundation’s support comes at a time when improving access to quality learning environments remains an important priority for communities seeking to enhance education outcomes.
Barugahara said the Kadindimo project should serve as a model of how government and development partners can work together to deliver tangible benefits to communities.
He also called for continued collaboration between government, development partners and communities, saying such partnerships can help accelerate development while ensuring that children, regardless of where they are born, have opportunities to succeed.
