Kabale: The police in Kabale district are investigating circumstances under which a motorcyclist was allegedly knocked dead by a UPDF truck on Sunday.

Wilbroad Kyengabo, a resident of Kakyuro village in Kigata parish, Kyanamira Sub-county, Kabale district, was crashed dead by a speeding UPDF water truck at Rushakyi, in Southern division, Kabale Municipality along Kabale-Mbarara Highway. Eyewitnesses reveal that Kyengabo was riding a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle registration number UEU538F when he was knocked  by the UPDF truck registration number X4DF attached to the 19th Battalion at Kihumuro hill in Kabale. He died on spot.

A UPDF soldier who was on the truck, who talked on of anonymity, said that Kyengabo breathed his last as they were preparing to rush him to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital.   Kigezi Region Police spokesperson Elly Maate said that “The body of the deceased is lying at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.” He added that  “Preliminary investigations  indicate that the truck driver identified as Daniel Orach was speeding and couldn’t brake because Kyengabo joined the road carelessly.”  He noted however that investigations into the matter are still ongoing. However, the army spokesperson couldn’t be readily got for a comment by the time we went to press because his known phone contacts were not going through.
