Danger! Three Officials At Ministry Of Water Succumb To COVID-19, Head Offices Closed

Kampala: The Ministry of Water has announced the temporary closure of head offices due to the escalating COVID-19 infections that has seen it losing three of its employees.

According to the Ministry, the closure of the offices will also help it carry out disinfection and employees go for testing for COVID-19.

“In order to prevent the spread of covid19 in offices it has been decided that office premises at the Ministry headquarters be closed with effect from June 18 to June 28, 2021 to allow disinfection of office premises and for staff to take covid19 test,” an internal memo circulated on June 17, by the permanent secretary Dez Atwebembeire read.

It added that only a few workers handling payment systems will be allowed at offices to complete pending payments. “They should however test for covid19 and present negative test results,” the Ministry said.

The Ministry added: “In line with the guidelines on preventive measures of covid19 issued by the permanent secretary on June 14, 2021, all staff should undertake a covid19 test and report back to duty with negative test results. Staff who will be positive should remain at home at seek medical treatment.”

The development comes as deaths from the virus in the country surged to 542 cumulatively.

At 49, the country on Wednesday witnessed the highest covid19 fatalities. This was followed by 17 deaths on Thursday (June 17, 2021) something that has triggered the president to schedule another address today at 8pm to announce extensive means of curbing the disease.
