Customs officers at Entebbe International Airport intercepted a passenger suspected of smuggling narcotics during routine border control operations last Friday, reinforcing ongoing efforts to curb illicit trafficking through Uganda’s main international gateway.

The passenger arrived aboard Ethiopian Airlines Flight ET338 at about 1:20 a.m. Upon arrival, their luggage was subjected to non-intrusive inspection using X-ray scanning technology, a standard procedure for inbound passengers.

During the screening, customs officers detected abnormal imaging patterns in one of the packages. The scan revealed tightly compressed, pellet-like objects uniformly arranged within the luggage an unusual configuration that raised suspicion of concealed narcotics and prompted a more detailed examination.

A subsequent physical inspection confirmed the presence of suspected heroin pellets hidden inside the bag. The suspect was immediately detained, and both the individual and the recovered exhibits were handed over to the Aviation Police for further investigation and case management.

Authorities said forensic analysis will be conducted to determine the exact weight and chemical composition of the substance. The case has been registered under Police Reference Number 04/26/12/2025.

The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) reiterated its commitment to combating the trafficking of illicit and harmful goods, while facilitating legitimate trade, strengthening border security, and safeguarding national and public safety.
