District Police Commander Cited In Foul Play With Criminals

By Andrew Irumba

Rubirizi: A senior Uganda Police Officer has come under fire for allegedly misusing office by conniving with some people to cover up criminals.

Dick Ayesigomwe, who is the Rubirizi DPC, is alleged to have failed to investigate cases involving animal thefts after allegedly being compromised by the meat sellers and the people who steal animals in the district.
It said that the DPC was also reportedly pinned by a gang of thieves who were arrested for allegedly stealing goats from a farm owned by the Chief Justice Bart Katurebe. Martial Tumusiime the Greater Bushenyi regional police spokesperson said that “The Police Professional Standards Unit-PSU and the police regional head office are investigating the matter.” Tumusiime, who declined to reveal the identities of the suspects who pinned Ayesigomwe, said that police are handling the matter and action will be taken against the officer in case he is found culpable of any foul play.

Tumusiime added that Katureebe reported the theft of his goats to Rubirizi police but Ayesigomwe declined to take action or investigate the matter, which prompted the regional criminal investigations department and PSU to intervene. However, when he was reached for a comment about the allegations, Ayesigomwe declined to comment, but said that the matter is under investigation and that we should contact those investigating.
