In a story that has left many Ugandans stunned and reflective, a dramatic DNA revelation has emerged from the ongoing divorce battle between Kampala University founder Professor Badru Kateregga and his estranged wife, Ms. Shubaiha Jolly Kateregga — shaking the very foundation of what was once seen as a model intellectual family.

After a court-ordered DNA test commissioned by His Worship Opio Charles Kangira, the Grade One Magistrate at Makindye Chief Magistrates Court, it has now been confirmed that only two out of the couple’s three children are biologically linked to the professor. The twin children, who are the eldest, are his — but the youngest is not.
This revelation has struck a deeply emotional chord. Those close to Prof. Kateregga report that he is devastated, having fully embraced and raised all three children with love and dedication — unaware of the deception that silently loomed in the background of his family.

The DNA results come amidst a bitter divorce case that began to unravel publicly as early as 2013, when Kateregga accused Ms. Jolly of serious domestic abuse, including alleged attempts to poison him and take control of his business empire, notably Kampala University. Jolly, in her defense, dismissed the claims as falsehoods, stating the wounds cited were post-surgery complications following treatment at International Hospital Kampala.

As the drama continues to unfold in court, a painful truth is becoming clearer: betrayal cuts both ways. While Jolly has accused the professor of infidelity throughout their marriage — which she claims she tolerated out of loyalty — the revelation that she bore and raised a child from another man, while presenting him as Kateregga’s son, has shocked even those sympathetic to her side of the story.

What was once a celebrated marriage that began in 2012 has now descended into a tragic public spectacle, offering harsh lessons on trust, fidelity, and the often hidden costs of unresolved conflict.
Observers say the case serves as a sobering reminder of the fragility of family bonds and the importance of transparency in relationships — especially those in the public eye.
While the court proceedings continue, one thing remains certain: Professor Kateregga’s heartbreak is real, and so is the emotional toll this has taken on everyone involved — especially the innocent children caught in the middle.
