Don’t Dare Close Private Schools: FDC Warns Gov’t.

By Peter Ssebulime

Opposition Forum for Democratic Change FDC has advised Government to abandon their decision to close down thousands of private schools that do not meet the necessary requirements.

The party spokesperson Hon.Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda said Government should instead help the schools to meet the requirements rather than celebrating their closure since their role does not stop at setting standards but also to educate the children thus private schools are only helping them.

Ssemujju added that Government in any way lacks the moral authority to close down schools since it failed in its own policy which requires it to establish schools from parish level and to manage the few that they have which simply means that it has failed to protect the rights of parents and school going children.

The call came at the time when schools opening on Monday for the new academic year. Observers said the closure of private schools could leave hundreds of children with nowhere to go for education.

He emphasized that the two issues makes life difficult especially for people in urban areas and thus if government fails to hear them this time, people will speak for themselves.

Mr.Morison Rwakakamba, the over seer of Bridges Schools in Uganda defied Ministry’s instructions and opened even when the ministry had warned them not to open schools that didn’t have minimum requirements.

Meanwhile the party also confirmed the death of their Chief Administrative officer Miss Rose Nassanga who passed on Monday morning at Mengo Hospital.
