Kampala: HE. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa has praised fallen speaker Jacob Oulanyah for his mega contributions to his country despite having served in government for not so long.

Addressing thousands of mourners that included, members of parliament, dignitaries from several East African countries, family and friends of Oulanyah at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds today, Museveni said the deceased was a loyal, disciplined cadre and a nationalist who played a fundamental role in uniting the people of northern Uganda and tirelessly mobilizing support for the ruling NRM government.

“Oulanyah was young but had already made an impact. As NRM, we started dealing with him when he was the chairperson of the Parliamentary legal committee although he was still in UPC, but we noticed him and saw that he had potential,” Museveni said adding;

”He broke away from sectarian politics of opposition and made a good contribution to the country. When we supported Oulanyah to take up the duties of Deputy Speaker, he took that time to multiply his talents. Losing him was a big loss because he was coming up and the country was going to benefit from him.”

Remember that in Oulanyah’s death report read yesterday, Health Minister Jane Ruth Aceng said that the deceased had subsequently visited several hospitals because of the same, but had challenges during the (Covid19) lockdown and during the elections when he was not able to be in the hospital.

From the above, Museveni warned Ugandans that it’s harmful to rush for politics when someone is sick adding that if he had known about Oulanyah’s health situation early enough, he would have advised him to concentrate on getting treatment before rushing for political seats.

“He was involved in all the politics in Omoro, CEC etc, If I had known,I would have told him to concentrate on his health. That speakership is very dangerous, sitting there the whole day. You shouldn’t accept that if you have some health issues,” he said adding;

”Health is a weapon. If you are a fighter for Africa, you must pay attention to health because you must use it to fight for Africa. That is why I discourage people from taking alcohol. It is not good for your health.”

Oulanyah died on March 20th at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle in the United States and will be buried on Friday this very week in Omoro district.
