DP President Mao Condemns Police Brutality Meted Out On Dr. Kizza Besigye

Kampala: Democratic Party (DP) President Norbert Mao has condemned in the strongest terms possible the high handedness police exhibited in dispersing a conference that Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) had organised in Namboole yesterday, during which they brutalised Dr. Kiiza Besigye.

Mao made this revelation during the weekly DP presser held at their offices in Kampala, where he said that; “We are going to make public the regulations  agreed on between IPOD and Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda, which police must follow in regulating public meetings rather than hiding in grey areas of the law to grant or deny permission to hold public meetings.”

The DP President reiterated that unhealthy competitions in the Democratic Party will not be tolerated, citing Nansana municipality as one of the constituencies  where unhealthy competition has been manifested for a Member of Parliament  position to the extent that the constituency Chairman wrote to police asking them to block a meeting sanctioned by DP National Executive Committee (NEC).

As a result of the Nansana impasse a two man committee comprising Kamya Kasozi and Ms. Aisha Waliggo has been set up to conduct  inquiries into the matter and make a report within two weeks.

Meanwhile, the matter involving reprimanding of the constituency Chairman Dr. Kazibwe Elijah was sent to the District Disciplinary Committee for fair hearing and thereafter  a report will be produced to guide on the next course of action.

The Democratic Party has since embarked on redesigning its new Membership Card which is annually renewable.

This development precedes the National membership registration exercise spearheaded by the office of the National Organising Secretary and is to be manned by registrars at constituency level.
