Kampala: Two Makerere University students have been arrested together with Dr. Stella Nyanzi, a former research fellow at the institution as they marched to Parliament to present a petition seeking justice for Emmanuel Tegu who died recently.

The three were arrested as they were, marching to parliament to present a petition demanding justice for the deceased Makerere student, Emmanuel Tegu who, on 4th July, succumbed to injuries at Mulago Hospital which he sustained after he was allegedly beaten to pulp by security guards inside the university premises on the night of 27th June 2020.

According to Nyanzi and the team claim, Tegu was unjustifiably killed by Men in uniform and they are seeking justice for him.

It took a group of Police officers both male and female to grab and arrest a resistant Nyanzi, who kept throwing her legs aimlessly while splashing her private body parts carelessly.

They were intercepted while marching to Parliament to present a petition demanding the justice of their deceased counterpart Emmanuel Tegu.

The team that couldn’t be calmed down by police officers held pick placards written on Justice for Tegu while yelling ‘freedom of speech is a constitutional right’ and continuously claiming ‘Tegu was killed by Men in Uniform’.

On Friday July 10, Makerere St Augustine chapel which is situated around the scene where Emmanuel Tegu’s assault happened, released a CCTV footage which captured the events that happened before Emmanuel Tegu was beaten.

However, the footage had for over 3 days been hidden from the media and public allegedly on police orders which sparked uproar and criticism as to why it had been hidden for all that time.

Since then, students and activists have been demanding for justice to the deceased accusing Police of being responsible for Tegu’s death.

While Police say Tegu was assaulted by a mob of Over 10 people including security guards who have so far been arrested in connection with the matter.

Four of the suspects including Charles Oigu, a local councillor, Balam Nyeko, a security guard, Johnson Kakuru and Moses Sekitoleko, both residents of Makerere University, last week appeared before the magistrate court at Law Development Centre and were remanded to Sentema prison in Wakiso District.
