The prices of the Premium package have been increased from UGX 219,000 to UGX 227,000. DStv Compact+and Compact Bouquets now cost UGX 135,000 and UGX 84,000 from UGX 129,000 and 75,000 respectively.
DStv Family monthly subscription now costs UGX 52,000 and DStv Access has increased by UGX 2,000 to UGX 35,000.
However, ever since the company announced the above price changes, a number of their subscribers in Ugandan, have raised mixed reactions on the new move of the satellite company while some have since announced dropping DStv decoders and subscribe to other service providers over inconsistency in prices.
According to the company’s agent we interacted with in Kampala City who preferred anonymity, he raised his complaints that this has led them into losses as agents since it’s becoming a hard move to get new customers, but instead get more complaints about prices. ” After hiking the prices, they’ve reduced content for lower price subscribers, previously even Access and family customers had some little sport, now most of them have been moved to premium customers,” an agent in Kisaasi, Kampala said.
“The customers i have been dealing with in different parts of the country are complaining especially sports fans because some league games are not aired and instead of checking and fulfilling people’s demands, the company just minds on milking from them” another agent in Wandegeya submitted.
According to our insider source in the company, ever since DStv started hiking prices, the customers have been complaining on the company’s motive of generating profits than fulfilling their demands of updating the content.
Meanwhile, when reached for a comment last week, DSTV’s front dest customer care attendant told this reporter that they arrived at the idea of increasing prices after wide consultations on how the company would survive through the COVID-19 hardships. “We chose to add shs2000 or shs5000 compared to closing doors. Many companies have closed world-wide, we’re still serving you, this little increase is what will help us to remain afloat,” she said via phone.
