Masaka: High Court in Masaka presided over by Justice Winfred Nabisinde sentenced Emmanuel Ssekisasi and Matia Ndugga to 35 years imprisonment each for aggravated robbery and 45 years for murder which will be served concurrently.

The court on Tuesday, October 8, 2019, heard that the duo committed the offence on November 4, 2014. They hired Thomas Mugga a Boda Boda cyclist at Mutukula stage to take them to Kasensero landing site.

On their way to Kasensero, they turned against Mugga and strangled him to death. They also stole his motorcycle registration number UEE 853D Bajaj boxer.

Prosecution led by Shebah Byakutagga also told court that the motorcycle was then taken to Tanzania. However, it was recovered.

Byakutaga told court that the duo dumped the cyclist’s body in a maize plantation where it was recovered by a passer-by.

The prosecution asked the court to give the two convicts a deterrent sentence as a message to all persons involved in acts of robbery in which several lives have been lost.

The defence lawyer, Alexander Lule told the court that convicts are remorseful for their actions and asked the court to be lenient to the convicts since they had spent 5 years on remand.

However, the presiding judge Winfred Nabisinde told the court that its judiciary duty to protect the public from people like Ssekisasi and Matia, who are involved in aggravated robbery plus mudder which she said warrant a long custodial sentence.

She said that 45 years’ jail term would be appropriate for the offence, not because of the value of the money stolen but killing a person
