Embrace Regional Cooperation To Win Transnational Organized Crimes – Police Urged

The East Africa Police Chiefs Organization (EAPCO) member States have been urged to embrace regional corporation in order to fight transnational organised crimes and maintain a peaceful region.

“We need to emphasize the value of corporation among law enforcement agencies to confront the transnational organized crimes.” Said the minister of Interior, Hon Gasana Alfred.

Hon Gasana made the remarks while officiating the opening ceremony of the 4th edition of EAPCO games in Kigali, Rwanda.

He emphasised the importance of a safe and secure environment for the entire region and the globe at large which is reflected in the spirit of the upcoming games.

The honorable added that the EAPCO games doubles as another sign of commitment from member states to foster regional cooporation and share best practises and experience to create a strong bond among member states.

Uganda was represented by The Director Welfare and Sports, Assistant Inspector General of Police, (AIGP ) Birungi Charles.

Birungi assured the member states of full cooperation in the fight against crimes adding that, “through sports, countries meet and share challenges and ideas on how to strengthen and maintain peace in the region.”

He reinstated that this year’s theme is relevent since it emphasizes on strengthening police corporation in the fight against crime through sports hence talent is development among police officers.

AIGP Birungi also emphasised discipline among the participants to enhace the spirit of brotherhood and corporation among the members.

This is the first time Rwanda is hosting the event which comes after a two-year derail due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The events kicked off today, Tuesday 21st March and are earmarked to climax on 28th under the theme, “Fostering Police Corporation to fight transnational organized crime through sports.”
