A contractor working with LOGISCO Company Ltd has been charged before the Tororo Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly impersonating a State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SH-ACU) officer and obtaining money from individuals under false pretences.
Muzuusa Derrick was arraigned by SH-ACU in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
He was charged with obtaining money by false pretence and remanded until October 6, 2026, as investigations and the prosecution of the case continue.
According to the prosecution, Muzuusa allegedly committed the offence on September 22, 2026, at Tororo Municipal Council in Tororo District, where he is accused of acting together with other individuals who have not yet been arrested.
Prosecution alleges that Muzuusa presented himself to officials of Tororo Municipal Council and other individuals as an SH-ACU officer, despite allegedly having no authority to represent the anti-corruption unit.
He allegedly claimed that he could facilitate the release of individuals implicated in corruption-related allegations arising from the ongoing Expose the Corrupt Campaign, a campaign led by Local Government Minister Balaam Barugahara.
The prosecution further alleges that Muzuusa demanded UGX10 million from the affected individuals, claiming the money would be used to secure their release and manage their cases.
The allegations have prompted SH-ACU to caution members of the public against individuals who falsely claim to be officers of the anti-corruption unit and demand money in exchange for purported assistance with corruption investigations or cases.
The unit urged anyone who encounters suspected impersonation, extortion or corruption involving people claiming to act on behalf of SH-ACU to report the matter to the relevant authorities.
Muzuusa remains on remand until October 6, when he is expected to return to court as the case proceeds.
