The newly appointed minister for energy and mineral development Dr Jane Mary Kitutu, on Monday launched an information system that is to be manned by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), which will help in monitoring and relaying data on new connections and power usage in real-time.
While launching the Information System at Mestil Hotel Nsambya,in Kampala, Dr Kitutu noted thus; “It gives me great pleasure and honour to officiate at this important function of launching the geospatial Electronic Database Information System (EDIMS).
This app supports the validation of emissions reduction generated through the connection of households.”
She added that the EDIMS tool consists of web and mobile applications where the web application facilitates users to view, validate, store and analyze consumer/connection information for every household with other relevant information.
The ministry is also implementing Bridging the Demand Supply Balance Gap Through the Accelerated Rural Electrification program that aims at accelerating access to clean and modern electricity while spurring balance of growth in demand, she said.
The Minister also explained that the implementation of the geospatial electronic database information management system (EDIMS) has been made possible with a grant from Carbon Initiative for Development Ci-Dev, a Trust fund of the World Bank.
According to officials at REA, the new REA infosystem that was launched will help on the monitoring the relays data on new connections and power usage, which will inadvertently improve service provision and lead to the connection of more Ugandans on the National Power Grid.
