Today marked a significant political milestone in Buyende District as Eng. Moses Magogo Hassim emerged victorious in the NRM District Chairperson elections, defeating former Budiope East MP Geoffrey Dhamuzungu in a competitive race.

Magogo, who is also the current Member of Parliament for Budiope East and President of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), secured 344 votes, comfortably outpacing Dhamuzungu, who garnered 168 votes.

The elections, part of the National Resistance Movement’s ongoing internal leadership restructuring, drew high interest from party members and political observers, given the stature of both candidates and their influence in the region.

Speaking shortly after being declared winner, Eng. Magogo thanked the NRM fraternity in Buyende for their confidence in his leadership and pledged to strengthen the party’s grassroots structures and champion community development.

“I am deeply humbled by the trust placed in me by our party members. This victory is not mine alone but for all NRM members who believe in unity, progress, and service to the people of Buyende,” Magogo said.

His win is viewed as a significant consolidation of political power in Buyende, signaling a generational shift in district leadership and a boost to his growing influence within the ruling party.

Observers noted that the election was peaceful and well-organized, with a strong turnout of NRM delegates from across the district. The NRM Electoral Commission has continued to emphasize discipline, transparency, and unity during the ongoing party elections at district and city levels.

Magogo now joins a growing list of high-profile leaders, including Rt. Hon. Speaker Anita Among (Bukedea) and Hon. Frank Tumwebaze (Kamwenge), who have secured NRM leadership positions at the district level—part of a broader mobilization strategy ahead of the 2026 general elections.
