Enough Is Enough, Stop Killing Our Muslims In Guise Of Fighting Terrorism: Bobi Wine ‘Ressurects’ Against Museveni

Kampala: National Unity Platform (NUP) leader dubbed 2021 presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has woke up from silence mode about the ongoing extra-judicial executions of alleged terror suspects by President Yoweri Museveni’s government.

Kyagulanyi’s statement follows a couple of incidences this week that saw police gunning down five terror suspects; four from Ntoroko district and one from Nsangi-Kampala over ”resisting arrest”.

According to Kyagulanyi, it has become the norm for security agencies led by the police force to shoot dead suspects and later claim that they were resisting lawful arrest and that it has gone on for far too long.

“While all of us understand the importance of keeping our country safe and holding accountable those who harm innocent citizens, I am deeply concerned about the continued extra-judicial execution of alleged terror suspects.

It has become the norm for security agencies led by the police force to shoot dead suspects and later claim that they were resisting lawful arrest. This has gone on for far too long.

It started with suspects in the attack on Gen. Katumba Wamala and has stretched all the way to the latest victim — Sheikh Abas Muhammed alias Sheikh Kirevu — who was “put out of action” today in Nsangi as security spokespeople like to say.

Sheikh Kirevu was allegedly connected to Tuesday’s terror attacks in the city, and was purportedly recruiting for the ADF in Ntoroko District! It is unfortunate that most of the victims are Muslims, thanks to an unfortunate stereotype the State has created about our brothers and sisters who profess the Islamic religion.

Our Constitution which guarantees the right of every suspect to due process, no matter the gravity of their alleged offence, must be upheld at all costs and in all circumstances.

Shooting dead suspects in offenses of this nature without subjecting them to the legal process simply creates suspicion in the eyes of ordinary citizens about the regime’s complicity in the crimes.”
