Kampala: It doesn’t rain but it pours problems for former Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Apollo Kantinti. TheSpy Uganda has learnt that Kantinti is currently languishing in Luzira prisons after being jailed over failure to service debts worth over Shs260m.

Kantinti, who in a 2017 by-election lost his parliamentary seat to Hon.Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, reportedly failed to clear a loan he secured from Standard Chartered Bank in June 2016. He reportedly borrowed Shs300m from the bank which he was supposed to pay back in 50 installments over a period of four years, with a 25% interest.

However, in 2017 he started defaulting on his monthly payments, prompting the bank to rush to court. In May this year, High Court Deputy registrar in charge of executions Flavia Nabakooba issued a warrant of arrest against the former legislator after he snubbed summons. He was thereafter arrested on June 27, 2019, and taken to court which committed him to jail.

“You are hereby required to take and receive the said Apollo Kantinti into prison and keep him imprisoned for a period of six months or until the said judgement creditors sooner be fully satisfied” the court registrar directed Luzira Prisons.

So in brief, Kantinti is to eat Luzira prisons posho and enjoy free accommodation services at the prison facility until he either clears the debt or completes his jail term.
