Explosions: 33 Nursing Bomb Wounds In Mulago-Fred Enanga

By Spy Uganda

Kampala: Two loud explosions rocked Uganda’s capital, Kampala, early on Tuesday, in what police termed “an attack” on the city, the latest in a string of bombings over the past month.

Both blasts took place in the central business district, one near the Central Police Station and a second one near the entrance to Parliament.

The explosions – one very close to parliament and one near the central police station – sent bloodied office workers scrambling for cover over shards of broken glass as a plume of white smoke rose above the downtown area.

Addressing the media at Police Headquarters-Naguru a city suburb, force’s Spokesperson Fred Enanga said so far the number of victims has escalated to 33 and are currently nursing wounds at Mulago Hospital.

On this attack, there was no immediate claim of responsibility but last month deadly group of the Islamic State-aligned Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), claimed its first attack in Uganda.

Before the Police address, Mulago Hospital was treating 24 blast victims, four of whom were in critical condition, Emmanuel Ainebyoona, a spokesperson for the health ministry, said on Twitter.

Both the ADF and al Shabaab frequently use explosive devices and have been accused of killing thousands of civilians in various regions of the African continent and so are expected to be the ones giving sleepless nights to Ugandans.
