Express FC Cruise To Semi-Finals As KCCA Bows Out Of Cecafa Kagame Cup

The Uganda Premier League Champions, Express Football Club displayed a phenomenal performance against Young Africans in the quarter-finals of Cecafa Kagame Cup on Saturday at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium, Tanzania.

The Red Eagles won 3-1 to progress to the Semi-finals of the tournament-thanks to the early opener by talisman Godfrey Lwesibawa in the 14th minute. The gifted striker demolished the Young Africans’ defence to slot home with a left foot.

After the opener, Express took on the game exerting more pressure with players gaining momentum and confidence and before long, the Red Eagles doubled their lead through midfielder Muzamiru Mutyaba in the 35th minute.

Goalscorer Lwesibawa was booked toward halftime for exchanging with the centre referee.

Just eight minutes into the second half, Erick Kambale noded in a fine header to make it 3-0. At this point, it was obvious the opponents couldn’t come back into the game.

However, in the 70th minute, the hosts managed to pull back one courtesy of Paul Godfrey to make 3-1 and Express FC clinching a well-deserved victory that saw them through to the Semi-finals where they will face off with KMKM FC while Azam FC will play against Nyasa Bullets in the other semi tie.

Elsewhere, the defending champions, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) FC bowed out of the tournament following a 1-0 loss to Le Messager de Ngozi FC.

A first-half goal for the Burundi based club was enough to crash Uganda’s Kasasiro boys out of the competition.
