We have since learnt that the social media giant disabled over 500 accounts in Uganda last evening and among those crying foul as a result of Facebook’s move include senior Press Secretary to President Don Wanyama who as we report this can’t access his Facebook account, neither can he post anything till further notice.

Others who have been hugely affected in such times when there is much demand to publicize President Museveni, is once Bobi’s blogger turned NRM supporter Ashburg Kato who has since been told, “if you think your account was disabled by mistake you can submit more information before 30 days elapse from when your account was disabled.”

While expressing his grievance towards Facebook’s move, Don Wanyama attributed it to foreign forces that are working day and night to oust three-decade President Museveni.

He took the anger to his Twitter and noted,” Shame on the foreign forces that think they can aid and plant a puppet leadership on Uganda by disabling online accounts of NRM supporters. You can take away your platforms, you won’t take away Kaguta Museveni votes.”

Another government official dreaming about his popular Facebook account is Duncan Abigaba the Deputy Head, Government Citizen Interaction Centre for citizens under the Ministry of ICT who has since reasoned that his and other pro-government accounts were disabled on the basis of political disagreements.

He also took it to Twitter and noted, “Hello Facebook, you have blocked thousands of pro-Government accounts in Uganda. Just to let you know that Uganda will hold a general election on 14th January 2020. Perhaps these accounts were reported on the basis of political disagreements. Kindly look into this.”
