Kampala, Uganda — The South Sudanese refugee community in Uganda is in distress after one of their own, Shehab Ali Yousif Abdallah, mysteriously went missing from his home in Najeera (2) Kira, a Kampala suburb, on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.

Shehab, a Sudanese national believed to be in his late 50s or early 60s, was last seen wearing a green shirt with black checks and fabric trousers. According to family and close community members, Shehab suffers from a psychological disorder, making his disappearance all the more urgent and dangerous.

“We have searched everywhere — hospitals, police stations, and around the refugee settlements, but no sign of him. It’s now been over a week, and we are very worried about his well-being,” said one of his relatives, visibly distressed.

The case was officially reported at the Kira Police Divisional Headquarters on June 25, 2025, under SD Ref 117/25/06/2025. According to the police entry, the complaint was filed by Hatim Mohamed Abdel Moumin, who identified Shehab as the missing person. The case is currently registered as a disappearance, but the community fears the worst.

Shehab was known among fellow refugees as a quiet and humble man, often seen around Najeera moving alone. Community leaders describe him as someone who struggled with mental health challenges but was never known to be violent or problematic.

“He’s a peaceful person. We used to check on him regularly. Sometimes he would forget directions or names. We are pleading with the authorities and good Samaritans to help us bring him back safely,” said a community elder from the Sudanese refugee group in Kampala.

The refugee community is now circulating missing person posters with his photograph, and they are urging the public to help identify and report any sightings. Several contact numbers have been provided for those who may have information:

Shehab’s disappearance highlights the vulnerability of refugees with mental health issues and the need for stronger community-based support systems, especially in urban settlements where social services are limited.

“We can’t afford to lose him. He is one of us, and his life matters,” said a youth volunteer helping in the search.

Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact the numbers listed or report to the nearest police station immediately.
