The Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) Board of Directors has officially confirmed Eng. Richard Matsiko as the substantive Chief Executive Officer, cementing his leadership at the national power transmission utility.

The confirmation was announced on Friday, January 30, 2026, following his tenure as Acting Chief Executive Officer, a role in which he has overseen key operational and strategic functions of the company.

Eng. Matsiko is a highly respected professional within Uganda’s electricity supply industry, bringing with him more than three decades of experience. His career dates back to March 1, 1991, when he joined the former Uganda Electricity Board (UEB) as a Trainee Electrical Engineer. Over the years, he steadily rose through the ranks, later transitioning to UETCL where he served as a Principal Protection Engineer before taking on senior leadership roles.

His confirmation comes at a critical time as UETCL implements its Corporate Strategic Plan 2025–2030, aimed at strengthening transmission infrastructure, improving grid reliability, and supporting regional power interconnections. Under his leadership, the company is expected to advance its vision of becoming Eastern Africa’s leading electricity transmission company.

In a statement, the Board expressed confidence in Eng. Matsiko’s technical expertise, institutional knowledge, and leadership capacity to steer UETCL through its next phase of growth and transformation.
The company has called upon stakeholders, staff, and the wider public to join in congratulating Eng. Matsiko and wishing him success as he assumes the role on a substantive basis.
