Former Nigerian President and Chancellor of Cavendish University Uganda (CUU), Goodluck Jonathan, has arrived in Kampala ahead of the university’s 15th graduation ceremony scheduled for Thursday, August 20, 2026.
Jonathan was received in Kampala early Wednesday by representatives of the Government of Uganda, Cavendish University Uganda Vice Chancellor Dr. Olive Sabiiti, members of the university’s management and staff, as well as officials from the Nigerian High Commission.
His visit comes as the university prepares to celebrate another cohort of graduates, marking 15 years of its graduation ceremonies and highlighting its continued role in Uganda’s higher education sector.
Speaking upon his arrival, Jonathan expressed his pleasure at returning to Uganda and said he was looking forward to joining the university community for the milestone celebration.
“As Chancellor of Cavendish University Uganda, I remain encouraged by the institution’s remarkable growth, commitment to excellence, and continued embrace of innovation in advancing higher education in Uganda,” Jonathan said.
He said the graduation ceremony would provide an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the graduands together with their families, lecturers and the wider university community.
The former Nigerian president has served as Chancellor of Cavendish University Uganda, bringing his experience as a former head of state and advocate for education and development to the institution.
The 15th graduation ceremony is expected to bring together graduands, parents, university officials, government representatives and other guests as the institution confers academic awards on successful students.
Jonathan’s presence also underscores the university’s international outlook and its efforts to strengthen its contribution to higher education through academic excellence and innovation.
