The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has renewed Paul Put’s contract as Head Coach of the Uganda Cranes, extending his tenure until 2028.
The decision comes as Uganda intensifies preparations to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) under the PAMOJA partnership with Kenya and Tanzania.
FUFA Chief Executive Officer Edgar Watson said the extension ends weeks of speculation about the Cranes’ technical leadership. He explained that the Federation’s focus is on stability and long-term planning as the country builds toward AFCON 2027.
“Retaining Coach Put gives us the continuity we need at this crucial stage. It allows for consistent progress in our technical approach and player development strategy,” Watson said.
Under the new contract, Put will continue to oversee the senior national team, the CHAN squad, and the U-23 side, guiding Uganda’s overall technical direction and nurturing the next generation of players.
As part of preparations, FUFA has scheduled two international friendlies against Chad on November 14, 2025, and Morocco on November 18, 2025 to test the team’s readiness ahead of upcoming competitions.
FUFA First Vice President Justus Mugisha said the renewal reflects the Federation’s confidence in Put’s leadership and alignment with its long-term technical master plan.
“This renewal is a vote of confidence in Coach Put’s philosophy and the progress we have seen so far. It also reaffirms FUFA’s commitment to a consistent, structured development pathway for Ugandan football,” Mugisha noted.
