Kampala: Bunyaruguru Girls made a perfect start to the 2020/21 FUFA Women Elite League after securing victory in the first group game against Kataka SHE on Saturday.
Despite Kataka SHE proving the better side especially in the opening moments, Bunyaruguru did just enough to earn all three points.
Adrine Musimenta scored directly from a free kick in the 68th minute to help the Rubirizi District-based side to victory.
The defender had her long strike from the free-kick go past goalkeeper Patience Nambuya who was disadvantaged because of height.
The result gives them an early lead in group B and coach Meddie Nyanzi believes it gives them momentum ahead of their next games.
“It is important to start the tournament with a win. I know every game in such a set-up matter and definitely, this will motivate us ahead of the next games.” He said.
His counterpart, Jovan Magino is optimistic that her charges will bounce back despite a false start.
“The performance was good despite suffering defeat. We have two games to play and I’m very optimistic that we shall be able to bounce back.
