FUFA Women Super League: Lady Doves Enter Finals After Beating Kawempe Muslim 1-0

Lady Doves is the first team to have reached the final of the 2020/21 FUFA Women Super League after edging record champions Kawempe Muslim in the semi-finals on Monday.

Riticia Nabbosa’s goal at the stroke of halftime with her long-range effort going past goalkeeper Juliet Adeke was enough to lift the Masindi based team to the finals.

Despite getting an injury blow in the 30th minute when leading top scorer Fazila Ikwaput was stretchered off after sustaining a knee injury, the Masindi based outfit kept their resolve to overcome Kawempe Muslim.

Nabbosa’s goal came in the first minute of added time before the break when she picked the ball in the middle of the pitch and sent a ferocious strike that went into the back of the net.

In the second half, Kawempe Muslim made several attempts at goal with Hadijja Nandago and Juliet Nalukenge coming close.

Nandago skinned through Lady Doves’ backline but failed to put the ball beyond goalkeeper Daizy Nakaziro.

Nalukenge also got close to finding the equalizer but her effort rattled the woodwork.

Lady Doves defended resiliently to claim victory and earn a berth into the final slated for Wednesday.

This is the second time that Lady Doves are qualifying for the final. They lost to UCU Lady Cardinals in the 2018/19 season.

They will face the winner between UCU Lady Cardinals and Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga.

Lady Doves assistant coach, Rajab Buyinza indicated the win means a lot in their quest to win the title.

“I thank God who has brought us this far. I laud the players for the spirited performance, they fought hard to make sure we win. We hope that the same spirit is maintained even in the final,” he said after the game.

Nabbosa who scored the all-important goal stated she asked for the goal from God and indeed it came to pass.

“I prayed to God to give me the goal and I’m thankful that he gave it to me today. I’m happy that the goal has helped my team to progress to the final.”
