Gen. Katumba Wamala’s daughter who was assassinated on June 1st, 2021 will be laid to rest today, Thursday in Kikandwa, Mukono (two days before) the burial of his mother-in-law slated for Saturday.
Brenda Nantongo was killed in a Tuesday gun attack on her father’s vehicle along Kisota road in Kisaasi, Kampala an incident that left her father injured and his driver Haruna Kayondo killed as well ahead of a vigil for her grandmother (Katumba’s mother-in-law), Elizabeth Mukasa.
Nantongo’s body arrived at the family home in Najjera Wednesday afternoon for a funeral service led by Archbishop of Church of Uganda, Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu.
Family members have since described Nantongo as a friendly person, who was quiet and reserved.
“Losing two close family members at the same time is too much. Mama is in pain and she will find it hard to recover. We were preparing to attend her mother’s funeral, not her daughter’s. This is too much pain for all of us,” a family member said.
Nantogo was the fourth born to Katumba. She studied at Green Hill Academy before she went to secondary school at Nabisunsa Girls School. She later studied both her undergraduate and Master’s Degree in Public Health at Savannah Atlanta University in the United States of America-USA.
Last year she returned to Uganda and got a job at a US-based NGO. RIP Nantongo
