Go Home For 3 Months; EC Boss Suspended For Leaking Classified Information To Key Opposition Leader

By Spy Uganda

Kampala: Electoral Commission top leadership has suspended it’s Principal Election Officer, Robert Frederick Wakabi for three months for leaking classified information to ‘wrong’ hands among other offenses, the commission said needs to be investigated without his interference. The Spy Uganda however has learnt through its independent sources that Wakabi is suspected to have been in ‘close touch’ with some opposition figures and that their classified information could have been compromised through such ways.

In recent presidential elections, Bobi Wine, with out any doubt told the world that he won the 2021 presidential elections but instead the electoral commission handed over his victory to his namesis Yoweri Museveni. Wine even offered to give evidence in court but later pulled out after ‘reading’ the signs that the Owiny Dolo led bar would instead stamp and clear it as genuine win. He opted to take the case to ‘public Court’, and we’re still awaiting ruling!

“This serves to inform you that you have been suspended from duty for three (3) months on half-pay with effect from Monday 9th August, 2021 inline with Regulation 11.5.3 of the Electoral Commission Human Resource Manual,” partially reads the letter signed by the acting General Secretary-Electoral Commission,  Mulekwa Leonard.

In the same vein, Wakabi was ordered  to handover all Commission property in his possession (except the official Identity Card).

“This position was arrived at under the management’s 56th meeting held on 4th August, 2021 after receiving and deliberating on serious allegations against you which need to be investigated without your interference,” adds the letter.

Although the letter doesn’t give specific incidents of their allegations, Spy Uganda learnt that the actual issues are hidden in these  allegations below. Wakabi has been suspended over;

1. Incitement with intent to cause disobedience to undermine the administration.

2. Making false statements and misrepresentations, which is likely to bring the commission and its staff into disrepute, disrespect or defamation.

3. Disclosing confidential information to a third party without authorization. Watch the space…
