Gov’t Finally Clears Resumption Of Labor Export Business For All Licensed Companies

Kampala: Government through the Ministry of Gender Labour and Social Development has finally cleared labour export companies to resume their business after eight months lockdown.

This has been revealed by the Uganda Association for External Recruitment Agencies (UAERA) an umbrella body for labour export companies through its Twitter handle which noted that Ministry of Gender cleared them on December 8, 2020, to resume business in observance of COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures.

“We wish to formally inform all our members and stakeholders that the long wait is over, We have today 8th.12.2020 received a communique from the Ministry of Labour Gender and Social Development authorising us that externalisation of labour has finally resumed. This will be in guidance with the COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures,” UAERA said.

The development comes after last few weeks Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development alerted all licenced companies to be ready for inspection to attain their readiness on implementation of set Covid-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) ahead of their re-opening.

Ministry noted that before clearing the companies to resume, it had to first;

1. Inspect all licenced recruitment companies and pre-departure orientation and train institutions on how to assess the levels of their compliance with COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

2. Consult with relevant ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) in the externalization of the labour sector on their readiness for re-opening.
