Gov’t Further Relaxes COVID-19 Lockdown Restrictions; Opens Casinos, Markets

Kampala: Gov’t has further relaxed COVID-19 lockdown restrictions nine months later-TheSpy Uganda exclusively reports.

The development has been confirmed by the Minister of Health Jane Ruth Aceng, saying in communication on Monday that mass gatherings, including political rallies, prayers, weddings among others can now have up 200 people effective November 15, 2020, as long as they follow SOPs remembering that previously, only up to 70 people gatherings were allowed.

Also, casinos, massage parlours, gyms, mobile markets have been okayed to resume operations effective November 14, 2020, but must observe the COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) too. “The above will operate between 6.30am and 7.00pm,” Minister said.

Meanwhile, bars and discotheques remain closed and so does the 9pm-5.30am curfew.

The development comes at a time when Uganda registered 171 new cases from cases tested on November 8, 2020, bringing the cumulative total cases to 14,574.

Ministry also confirmed one new COVID-19 death recorded in Kampala, bringing the total deaths to 133.

The breakdown of the new cases are: 165 contacts and alerts: Kampala (63), Gulu (22), Moyo (10), Luwero (9), Apac (7), Masaka (7), Busia (6), Amuru (5), Kabale (21), Wakiso (3), Arua (4), Maracha (2), Buvuma (1), Kyotera (1), Jinja (1) Adjumani (2), Moroto (1) 5 Returnees: Elegu PoE 1 Truck Driver: Busia PoE
