The government of Uganda has postponed reopening of sports grounds, stadiums and resumption of sporting activities in Uganda, after officials from the Ministry advised that it is likely to cause a surge in Coronavirus (COVID-19) infections.

This was revealed Wednesday by the State Minister for Sports Hon. Hamson Obua, who held a private meeting with the Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda, Federation of Uganda Football (FUFA) president Moses Magogo and members of the COVID-19 National Task Force.

Shortly after their meeting, Minister Obua tweeted thus; “Met with PM @RuhakanaR over the resumption of sports and SOPs considerations. The meeting was also attended by FUFA President Eng@MosesMagogo and FUFA Deputy CEO Decolas Kiiza. We urge our sports men and women to remain patient as we forge a way forward.”

It should be noted that sports grounds were closed in March by President Yoweri Museveni in the directives he gave about avoiding crowds and maintaining social distance as way to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
