The government of Uganda has announced that it plans to evacuate all Ugandans currently stranded in Qatar due to the Coronavirus Lockdown and that it will do so via a chartered flight from Doha to Entebbe International Airport.
According to a letter dated May 31, 2020, seen by TheSpy Uganda, the Uganda embassy in Qatar is finalizing plans to charter the said flight on June 6th, 2020, although all Ugandans who intend to board the flight will have to cater for travel expenses.
The Letter from the Ugandan Embassy in Doha reads thus;
“ VERY URGENT TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN
The Embassy of Uganda in Qatar informs Ugandans currently in Qatar who wish to travel back to Uganda that there will be a flight leaving Doha to Entebbe on the 6th June 2020.
This is therefore to request that given the short time those who wish to travel should urgently;
-Avail their details to the Embassy email; firstname.lastname@example.org
The Embassy will soon submit the process of ticket payments to those who will have registered through the email above.
N.B. Please note that all passengers will pay for their own tickets.”
Meanwhile,just afew ago another communication from the Embassy was reportedly issued altering the travel dates. “This is to inform you that the above travel date was prematurely communicated to you and therefore travel date is not yet confirmed,” reads part of the letter.
It should be noted that several Ugandans got stranded abroad when President Yoweri Museveni announced the COVID-19 lockdown in March, which saw the closure of all Uganda’s borders and suspension of passenger flights at Entebbe Airport, among other drastic measures that were introduced by government.
