Gulu Kampala Highway Accident Claims One, Police Warns On Reckless Driving

On 18.04.2023 at about 12:50hrs, a fatal accident occurred at Ngaju in Luwero District along the Gulu-Kampala Highway. The accident claimed the life of one person, Kirunda Doglous m/a 28 years of Kinoni- Nakasongola, (Driver of UAX 764K). His body was identified by and handed over to his relative Mr Mwenya Umar from Iganga district.

Police says the cause of the accident is suspected to have been reckless driving on the part of the driver (not yet identified) of MV UBE 085Z Mitsubishi Fuso maroon in colour. ”The two motorvehicles were moving from opposite directions with the driver of UBE 085Z from Kampala direction and the driver of UAX 764K from Gulu side.”

It is alleged that when the driver of MV UBE 085Z, driving at a high speed, realized that he was going to knock the vehicles ahead of him, he decided to overtake them and ended up in a head on collision with MV UAX 764K.

”The Police is yet to establish the whereabouts of the driver and passengers of MV UBE 085Z. The public is encouraged to provide relevant Information relating to this incident to the nearest Police as the file is still under investigation,” says Police Deputy Spokesperson Polly Namaye.

He adds that on the same day, two additional dead bodies were taken to Luwero hospital. One person (not yet identified) suspected to have succumbed to natural causes and the second one was later identified as Kizibwe Daniel M/A aged 52 years from Kikyusa Subcounty in Luwero district, whose body has been identified and claimed by his relative Mr Senyendo Isaac, succumbed to a motorcycle accident and the file was opened up under kikyusa police station for investigation.

”One body remains unidentified at the hospital mortuary and we call upon any one whose loved one is missing to contact the hospital for assistance,” adds Namaye.
