Has Gareth Bale Ended Loris Karius Career?

Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius, who made two massive blunders in the Champions League final against Real Madrid late night on Saturday, blamed himself for the defeat after the match.

The German international saw much criticism after the match after he gave away two easy goals to the opposition, one being scored by Karim Benzema in the 50th minute, while the other by Gareth Bale in the 83rd minute.

Real Madrid substitute Gareth Bale scored twice – including a brilliant overhead kick – to win a Champions League final which ended in tears for Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah in Kiev.

Sad moment for football lovers: MO Salah in Tears

The Wales international, the first British player to score a winner in the European Cup final since Liverpool-born Peter Withe in 1982, produced an influential 29-minute cameo in the 3-1 victory which was a horror show for Reds goalkeeper Loris Karius.

Out-of-form Karim Benzema was gifted an early second-half goal when he intercepted a Karius throw, poking the ball into the net – and although Sadio Mane quickly equalised Bale struck twice.

A tearful Loris Karius was inconsolable at the end of the evening

The Wales international’s first goal was sublime and in many ways reminiscent of his manager Zinedine Zidane’s goal which won the 2002 final, but his second was pure comedy as Karius let a 30-yard strike slip through his fingers.

Victory in Ukraine ensured Madrid became the first team in the Champions League era to win the tournament for three successive years, extending the record they achieved last year by successfully defending the title. They have now won the tournament four times in the past five years.

The lose against Real Madrid means Liverpool’s head  coach Jürgen Klop lost his third successive final since his arrival at Anfield, having suffered defeats in the league cup and Europa league finals in 2016 to the Spanish club Sevilla.
