The police in Lwengo District have arrested a heartless woman who brutally murdered her stepson and later dumped the body in a pit latrine on Tuesday.
Sophia Nakanwagi, a resident of Kinoni village, Lwengo Town Council, Lwengo District, was arrested by police over allegations that she hit her stepson identified as Abdul Shakul, 10, with a hoe on the head, killing him instantly.
It is said that prior to killing the boy, Nakanwagi had accused him of stealing and eating a sugarcane she had kept in the house.
Nakanwagi’s husband identified as Muhammad Mukasa alias Muzungu, told police that when he asked her what had happened to Shakul, she told him that she had been told by other kids in the neighbourhood that he had been kidnapped on his way to the well.
Mukasa and Nakanwagi that she revealed after interrogation how she had killed the boy and dumped the body in the latrine.
The police later deployed a team from the Kinoni Police Fire Brigade who went to the scene, demolished the toilet and were able to retrieve the body from the pit.
The police later revealed that Nakanwagi was charged with murder and will be arraigned in court to face the charges when investigations are completed.
