Sheema, Uganda : Mbarara high court has today Monday January 7, 2019 commenced hearing of the Sheema municipality election petition between Forum for Democratic Change (FDC’s) Virginia Mugyenyi Plan and National Resistance Movement (NRM) cabinet Minister for Science, Technology and innovation Hon. Elioda Tumwesigye Katsyamutwe.

Seating judge Justice Flavian Zeija told the two parties this  morning that Justice Dr. Andrew Bashaija, who is handling their matter, was not present in court, before adjourning it to Wednesday 9, 2019 for further hearing.

Dr. Tumwesigye and  Mugyenyi were both present in court. Minister Tumwesigye was represented by Counsel Kandebe Ntambirweki of Ntambirweki, Kandebe & Co. Advocates while Mugyenyi’s  lawyer is John Isabirye of Isabirye and Company Advocates. Mugyenyi told TheSpy reporter that she is not worried about the ruling because she knows that even if she loses the petition, the 2021 Electoral Commission roadmap is already out.

Ms. Mugyenyi said “I am interested in the judgment because it will clear the electoral mistakes which were exhibited in Sheema municipality elections, where I won elections but instead Minister Elioda Tumwesigye was declared as the winner.” However Minister Dr. Tumwesigye refused to comment about the matter.
