Sheema: Hon.Jacklet Atuhaire Rwabukurukuru, the Sheema District woman MP has Tuesday empowered her farmers with over 80,000 hoes with an aim of curbing the challenge of hunger and poverty that has occasionally hindered Sheema’s development.

While handing over the relief to the District task force for proper distribution, Jacklet revealed that Sheema District has about 80,000 families believing that each is to receive a hoe urging them not to sell them but use them to increase food production.

“I couldn’t give you maize flour because it can’t last for even a week but this hoe will last for a couple of years and through farming it can turn you a billionaire, I believe in China’s proverb of giving someone a hook not a fish,” Jacklet said.

Jacklet asserted that if Ugandans had concentrated on growing of both food and cash crops this current situation of Coronavirus Pandemic would have no effect on them.

“In the past years, Sheema District used to be a food basket, but these days it’s the opposite as many are crying for just kilograms of maize flour,” she noted.

While receiving the donation, RDC Sheema District Frank Kyereere commended Hon Jacklet’s contribution towards Sheema farmers, saying that she had become the first leader to offer a donation that people will share equally.

Later, hoes were handed over to the LC1 Chairmen who are meant to distribute them in their respective villages whom RDC warned to ensure transparency and equality while distributing them.

It’s worth noting that this is not the first time Jacklet agriculturally supported the people of Sheema, In March 2020 she donated fertilizers, maize seeds, beans, soybeans and potato stems as away of increasing Uganda’s Agriculture production.
