President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has officially bid farewell to the outgoing Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Uganda, Vladlen Semivolos, in a meeting held at State House, Entebbe on Saturday.
The meeting marked the end of Ambassador Semivolos’ diplomatic tour in Uganda, during which both leaders reflected on the longstanding historical ties between their countries and commended efforts to strengthen bilateral relations.
President Museveni praised the ambassador’s role in fostering cooperation and maintaining warm relations between Uganda and Russia.
“I congratulate you on finishing your tour of duty and commend your efforts in ensuring the continued warmth and cooperation between our countries and people. I wish you good luck in your future endeavors,” the President said.
In response, Ambassador Semivolos expressed appreciation for the hospitality extended to him during his tenure, noting that his time in Uganda had been both productive and personally meaningful.
“I take pride and special privilege to have served in this country and I honour your support in various fields that have benefitted both Uganda and Russia,” he remarked.
In a series of separate diplomatic engagements at State House Entebbe, President Museveni also met with Virginie Leroy, who delivered a message and invitation from Emmanuel Macron.
The invitation pertains to the upcoming France–Africa Summit scheduled to take place in Nairobi next month, where Uganda is expected to participate alongside other African nations.
Additionally, the President held talks with Lisa Chesney to discuss expanding economic cooperation between Uganda and the United Kingdom. The discussions focused on trade, investment opportunities, and export financing initiatives aimed at boosting business growth.
The engagements underscore Uganda’s ongoing efforts to strengthen diplomatic relations and expand economic partnerships with key global players. From deepening ties with Russia to enhancing collaboration with France and the United Kingdom, the government continues to position Uganda as an active participant in international cooperation.
As Ambassador Semivolos departs, officials say the foundation laid during his tenure is expected to support continued collaboration between Kampala and Moscow, while new engagements signal growing opportunities with European partners.
