Nation Media Group (NMG) Uganda has officially resumed operations after several days of disruption that forced its television, radio, print and digital platforms off air.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, the media house announced that its services would return in phases as it finalized the necessary operational arrangements.
“Nation Media Group Uganda is pleased to announce the resumption of its operations. Our services across television, print, radio and digital will be restored progressively as we complete the necessary operational arrangements,” the company said.
The announcement brings to an end a highly publicized standoff that saw security agencies halt the operations of NMG’s media outlets, including NTV Uganda, Spark TV, and the Daily Monitor.
The suspension followed escalating tensions between the media house and the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
In the days leading up to the shutdown, Gen. Muhoozi accused NMG of publishing what he described as false and malicious reports about him. He also publicly called for the arrest of NMG Uganda Managing Director Susan Nsibirwa, before later announcing that he had withdrawn the directive following appeals from associates.
The suspension sparked widespread concern among local and international media freedom advocates, who argued that the move threatened press freedom and limited the public’s access to information. Several organizations called for dialogue between the government and the media to resolve the dispute.
As operations resumed, NMG expressed gratitude to its audiences, advertisers and business partners for their patience and continued support during the interruption.
“We appreciate the patience and understanding shown by our audiences, clients and partners during this period and appreciate your continued trust and confidence in our brands,” the statement read.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to providing credible, balanced and independent journalism as it gradually restores all its services.
