“Of the 163000 refugees, 60% are youth and children, women are 25 % and men about 15%. That shows that children and women are the most vulnerable. We want to add some little smile to those children and the women this Christmas season,” Irumba confirmed.

The GRO Foundation and its GRO Initiative is a social-impact organization dedicated to planting 1 billion trees and helping to lift millions of individuals and families out of poverty by 2030 through creating sustainable livelihood projects and connecting grassroots communities to the global carbon market.

The organization does the above under a mission to fund “un-fundable” social impact projects using climate finance and aims at achieving its vision of enabling vulnerable communities, women, and youth to take control of their own future.

“It is a simple concept with a far-reaching impact. Our thesis is that reforestation and climate finance is not just about improving the environment. It is a tool to sustainably uplift communities and save lives,” added Gro Foundation’s CEO Paul Flynn, who was on 26, August 2023 awarded as an Environmental Philanthropist at the PAP Global Awards 2023 in Kampala.

While welcoming Mr Flynn into the country, Inter religious Council’s Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Documentation Manager, James Mukwaya expressed happiness to the effect that Paul was in the country to flag off the implementation of the 15 yr cooperation agreement signed recently between Gro foundation and IRC-U. “His arrival into the country signifies the start of our journey that will see the growing of over 250m trees in Uganda in over 15yrs, in Buganda, Busoga and Tooro sub regions, using our IRCU structures,” he said.
