Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) has officially suspended academic activities to allow students and staff to observe the forthcoming Eid-El-Fitr festivities, according to an internal communication from the Office of the University Secretary.

A circular dated 16th March 2026, signed by University Secretary Sewankambo Hamza, confirms that the institution will observe a three-day holiday in line with Section 7.4.2 (b) of the Staff Regulations, 2023. The directive mandates the university community to mark Eid-El-Fitr across three significant days — the eve of Eid, the day itself, and the following day.

Based on anticipated moon sighting, the holidays have been scheduled from Tuesday, 18th March through Thursday, 21st March 2026. During this period, all academic activities, including lectures, will remain suspended. However, essential services such as security and healthcare will continue to operate uninterrupted.

The university administration has clarified that normal academic operations will fully resume on Monday, 23rd March 2026, urging students to take note of the adjusted schedule. The announcement has since been reiterated among student circles, emphasizing that there will be no lessons from the immediate day until the official reopening date.
