According to the statement released by Karemani Jamson K. and Solomon Muyita both publicists of Uganda’s judiciary, Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has promoted 32 judicial officers in the magistracy and registrar ranks.

The new promotions include nine Judicial Officers promoted to Deputy Registrar, five to Assistant Registrar, 14 to Chief Magistrate, one Principal Magistrate Grade One, and one to Senior Magistrate Grade One.

Also appointed is a Senior State Attorney and an Advocate as Deputy Registrar and Chief Magistrate respectively.

“We are delighted with the promotions because it is a perfect boost in the ranks where we have a huge caseload,” said the Chief Registrar, Ms Sarah Langa Siu.

“However, promotions always create gaps in the lower structure, which will need to be filled. For instance, although we have 15 new Chief Magistrates, 12 of the existing ones have been elevated to Deputy and Assistant Registrars. This means that, in fact, the number of Chief Magistrates has only gone up by 3 from 42 to 45. Also the number of Magistrates Grade One has dropped from 175 to 165 due to promotions. But we shall continue working closely with JSC to ensure that the gaps are filled,” Langa added.

The Chief Registrar said the elevated officers would be deployed soon and allowed time for transition bearing in mind the prevailing COVID-19 situation. For names of those who have been promoted click on this linkPress Release_JSC Promotes 32 Judicial Officers
